Two performers act a scene but cannot make any sounds other than dialogue; one or more off-stage performers provide all sound effects live.
Known for
- Often played with an audience volunteer as the Foley artist on the UK Whose Line.
- Tests actors' patience — they must pause for sounds rather than plow forward.
- Foley provider should be additive, not just reactive — introducing sounds to trigger new scene directions.
- Variant: pre-recorded sound effects are played in and actors must justify each.
