About this wiki

The Improv Wiki is the deepest improv reference on the internet. Built by improvisers, for improvisers. Open to everybody who gives a shit about the artform.

What we cover

People, troupes, schools, forms, games, concepts, festivals. The whole graph. Every entry links to every other relevant entry, so you can follow threads across decades and continents. Harold links to Del Close links to iO links to UCB links to Tina Fey links to SNL. That's the point.

How entries are built

Each entry is researched and written from published sources, theater websites, interviews, and books. We don't make things up. Every entry has a sources list. If we've got something wrong, email us and we'll fix it.

Some entries are short. Some are long. Short doesn't mean unimportant — it usually means the public record on that entity is thin. If you have more to add on somebody or something we've stubbed out, we want to hear from you.

About the living people on this site

Here's the deal. Everybody on this site is either alive or was recently. Some of them are saints. Some of them are not. We don't rank them.

Living improvisers get factual info. Schools attended. Troupes. Credits. Scenes they're associated with. If they wrote a book about the bad thing, we'll cite the book. If they gave a public statement, we'll cite that.

What we won't do:

Why we're like this. Improv is small. Everybody teaches everybody. Everybody books everybody. You don't shit where you eat. When somebody's bombing, you catch them. You don't post about it. This is a site that loves improv. We're not here to be the guy.

If you want gossip, the back channel of your local theater has plenty. If you want credits and scene context, we got you.

The app

The wiki is part of Improv Chat — a solo improv practice app. Ten mini-games that drill the fundamentals. Voice-first. Real coach-style scoring. Play in your browser.

Something missing?

hello@improvchat.com. Missing troupe, bad source, something we got wrong, something we should write about. Everything goes.
